Spanish term or phrase: solución mixta
Mexico: IV fluids on Dr. order sheet for pt w/ acute pancreatitis, dehydration: "solución mixta 1000 cc para 6 hrs, alternar con solución salina 0.9% 1000 cc para 6 hrs."
I suppose "solución mixta" (with no further specifications) could have a local meaning (i.e., for that hospital) and we wouldn't know what its composition is...
I found a few definitions (one below): it seems that, while composition may vary, "solución mixta" may generally/usually refer to a hypotonic solution...(?)
"Sol. Mixta : Las soluciones mixtas comerciales (NaCl 0.45% con DW5%, NaCl 0,18% con DW4%) o preparadas (Hartman / DW) son utilizadas para mantenimiento de aporte hídrico en pacientes en ayuno principalmente...." From:

dextrose+sodium chloride solution
Explanation:
I have found references to show that "solución mixta" is dextrose + sodium chloride:
Solución mixta: Contiene 154 mmol de NaCI y 50 de glucosa por litro de solución

Soluciones ligeramente hipertónicas.Ej: solucion mixta dextrosa- 5%,
NaCl 0.9%

Mixto: Solución Isotonica de Dextrosa y Cloruro de Sodio.

Dextrose can be diluted in water alone (D5W) so I guess that the "mixed" is confirming that it is dextrose in NaCl.
Also, alternating ivi fluids is common practice so this makes sense here.

disagree  Alberto Odor: Parenteral nutrition involves de use of either amino acids (proteins) or lipids in the solution which Solución Mixta doesn't have. It is plain water with some salt and sugar.

agree  Alberto Odor: this is exactly right. In Mexico commercial "solución mixta" is dextrose + sodium chloride in water and it is very common. It has NOTHING to do with parenteral nutrition.
