Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical (general)
Spanish term or phrase: Tifico O, Tífico H
These terms appear on a Laboratory Analysis from Mexico under Serological Reactions. The analysis were done as part of a import-export proposal so show that the facilities and workers did not carry any transferable diseases.

I believe tífico is typhus or typhous in English, but do not know how to translate "O" and "H". Any help/corrections would be very much appreciated. Thankyou!

The Agglutinating Suspension
Biotec Laboratories’ range of febrile antigens (stained bacterial suspensions) are standardised smooth suspen-
sions of killed bacteria which have been vitally stained to aid the reading of the agglutination reaction. Blue
stainedantigenarespecifictosomatic‘O’antigens,whilstredstainedantigensarespecifictoflagella‘H’antigens.
Febrile antigens are sensitive to heat and cold, and must be stored at 2-8 C (± 2 C). Freezing will destroy the
suspension. Full details for the storage of these reagents are given in the instructions for use (IFU) provided with
each product.
The Widal Test
This diagnostic technique was devised by Widal to detect antibodies in serum of patients suffering from typhoid
fever. The use of a variety of Salmonella O and H antigens has allowed the application of this method to be
extended to include Salmonella other than S. typh

Are you sure it is "typhus" and not "salmonella typhi"?

En nuestro país, en las reacciones de Welch-Stuart y
Widal se incluyen los antígenos: Tífico O, Tífico H,
Paratífico A, paratífico B y Brucella abortus
(3)

Brucella anortus
en 48 horas.
