First Chamber of the Criminal Division of the Trial Court Explanation: Here's what's going on: The Juzgado de Primera Instancia is the initial jurisdiction court for lots of things. (I've called it "Trial Court") It probably has a Cámara Penal in addition to a Cámara Civil and various other Cámaras. American courts tend to have "Divisions". Because there may be enough crimes in this place to make it necessary to have more than one trial at any given time, they have multiple "salas" (which I called "chamber"). This particular trial is going on in the first one. You haven't indicated where this court is, so I can't be absolutely sure, but this arrangement is common. American court systems often get divided in similar ways with different names. I recommend you keep the Spanish name somewhere and match the English names to your favorite jurisdiction. |
