Término o frase en italiano: bagna alcolica
liqueur-like preparation used when making cakes. Sorry I don't have a context sentence. The customer makes flavourings etc. for professional pastry cooks and just asked for this isolated term.

Alexandra Speirs: 19:21 May 16, 2007: Cooking - Oops, I should have classified this as Cooking, not Food/dairy
silviantonia: 19:47 May 16, 2007: My answer is "what to call it in English.' See added notes, please.
Alexandra Speirs: 21:17 May 16, 2007: I know, it's a "soaking medium", trifle is an old family stand-by. Though it sounds a bit chemical, Google makes a few hits but mostly with beans!
silviantonia: 21:19 May 16, 2007: Soaking medium is an excellent option. My preferred medium is usually very good cognac... although I use Cardenal Mendoza when I have it.

soaking in liquor or alcohol
Explicación:
It really depends on what you mean... I use brandy or cognac, for example, in many things, even in my bread pudding, but I don't use it as a 'bagna' but just add it to the mix. I do soak fruit when making other things, which would be a bagna alcolica... so I might use soaking in cognac or rum for strawberries... And I use marsala wine for many things I make. We also have something called a panetela borracha, which is soaked (so soaked that the end you are soaked!).

steeped in alcohol

Explicación:
but not sure quite what to call the solution - none such sold as such in UK. Alcohol-based steeping liquid sounds rather uninteresting...
