| Clarification request(s) and responsemaryro: 15:53 Jul 23, 2008: I am not sure that brilliant comedy is used in English to refer to this particular genre. It seems to me that brilliant is just used as an adjective, as to say that that particulat comedy is brilliant, great...but not to refer to the comedy genre. Am I right? Tom in London: 16:02 Jul 23, 2008: hmmm. Is there such a thing as a non-brilliant comedy? maryro: 16:10 Jul 23, 2008: You are right Tom, I think commedia brillante is somehow redundant...That's why I was going to translate it just comedy. But maybe witty comedy is more specific...Anyway...a dark comedy is not that brilliant, for instance... Tom in London: 16:15 Jul 23, 2008: Well, I'd just go with "comedy" for this translation and then we can all have a nice discussion about whether the comedy in Harold Pinter (for instance) or the film of "Gomorra" is dark, witty, black, or brilliant :)

| | comedy | Explicación: In Italian a "commedia" is simply " a play". Not necessarily a funny one. So to make the distinction, in Italian you have to say "commedia brillante". But in English there is no such disctinction; a comedy is *always* for laughs.

| Nota de quien pregunta a quien contestaThanks to everybody for your prompt and helpful answers. I'll go for comedy because as Tom says, in English there is no need to specify that is a funny comedy, at least not in this context. Thanks Tom! 4 puntos KudoZ otorgados a esta respuesta |
