Does anyone know of an 'official' translation for this term?

| Clarification request(s) and responseWendell Ricketts: 15:20 Mar 19, 2008: Simon, I checked iate and other sources and, strangely, an official trans doesn't seem to exist. (Who knows how that happens.) The US State Dept, fwiw, refers to Americans Living Abroad and to Services for Citizens Overseas. One also finds Wendell Ricketts: 15:23 Mar 19, 2008: "Americans Resident Overseas." It's not an anagrafe, though. If you need a birth or death certificate, e.g., there's a Consular Report of Death/Birth Abroad." Since the AIRE is a consular office, maybe Consular Registrar for Italians Abroad.... simon tanner: 15:30 Mar 19, 2008: thanks for the input Wendell. The certificate in question is actually issued by the Municipio di Messina, servizio AIRE (elsewhere in the certificate, this becomes 'ufficio AIRE'), so not sure about consular. Registrar or Registry Office might work, though Wendell Ricketts: 17:12 Mar 19, 2008: Ah, right. I was thinking of the "estero" - abroad, the AIRE registry is at the Italian consulate in whatever nation it is, or so I believe to be true. Maria Luisa Dell'Orto: 17:21 Mar 19, 2008: Wendell is right AIRE gives the name to an office inside the Italian Consulate moranna: 00:41 Mar 20, 2008: AIRE é l'elenco mantenuto in ogni comune e poi inviato al Ministero degli Interni. Il Consolato invia, sempre al Ministero degli Interni, i dati relativi dall'Anagrafe Consolare che il cittadino ha l'obbligo di comunicare entro 90 giorni. simon tanner: 06:11 Mar 20, 2008: Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. Thanks Wendell and Moranna for clearing up exactly what we were dealing with. Happy Easter to you all!

| AIRE (Registry of Italians Residing Abroad)
Explicación: Not very different from the above, but this is what several UK and US consulates call it. Although the previous suggestions sound much better to my ears!
Who is eligible to vote abroad?
Only Italians formally residing abroad – that is, Italian citizens who are officially registered with AIRE (Anagrafe degli Italiani Residenti all’Estero - the Registry of Italians Residing Abroad).
