Agricultura / Vine growing
Término o frase en italiano: attitudine uvifera
I'm translating an article on grapes and vine growing in which the various species are classified as "con attitudine uvifera", "con scarsa attitudine uvifera" e "priva di attitudine uvifera". Does anyone have any idea how I could translate those terms? Thanks, Sarah.

Clarification request(s) and response
Alessandra Renna: 13:00 Sep 10, 2007: Are they species of grapes? It sounds strange. A grape with no "attitudine uvifera"!!! May it be "vinifera"?
Alessandra Renna: 13:02 Sep 10, 2007: I meant a species of grapes, naturally
potra: 13:52 Sep 10, 2007: more context is needed

Umberto Cassano: 14:51 Sep 10, 2007: More context would help us indeed
Sarah Gregg: 06:20 Sep 11, 2007: You are all quite right, I should have provided more context. Here is the part of the translation in full:
"The Euvitis subgenus può essere suddiviso in:
* specie americane dei climi temperati, a loro volta suddivise in:
- serie orientali (resistenti alla Peronospora ma scarsamente alla Fillossera, con attitudine uvifera)
- serie centrali (resistenti ma con scarsa attitudine uvifera)
- serie occidentali (resistenti alla siccità, prive di attitudine uvifera)
The article is about vine species and grapes in general, their nutritional value and other properties and I quite agree that it does sound very strange to talk of a vine which does not produce grapes...
Does that make it clearer?

grape-bearing area/vineyard terrain
Explicación:
More context would help. However I'put it this way, "grape-bearing area".

I don't know if the "various species" you're referring to are "grape varieties" or something else.

Attitudine looks like the italian term "vocato/a" in the common expression "zona vocata (alla viticoltura)" translated by Giles Watson as "vineyard terrain".

Given the context you kindly provided I'd say that "attitudine uvifera" might be

"grape-bearing portential"

1. no grape-bearing potential
2. poor grape-bearing potential
3. average/good/high grape-bearing potential

Explicación:
Are they for the table or for wine, by the way? A whole sentence might help.
It depends on the sentence but e.g. "... good yield of grapes.." "heavy bearer of fruit..." "..moderate yield..." "likely to be a heavy/light/moderate bearer..." or "reluctant to bear fruit...", etc.

if you put "yield" or "crop" into the "Search" of this file you see lots of examples:
