'Il concetto di "rifollamento" o pressione diametrale e' traducibile in inglese con "bearing stress"', which is similar to what Vittorio said. I'll have to think about how to grade the replies.

Explicación:
Deformation of metal under a rolling load. Rails under constant rolling pressure spread slowly and the metal becomes deformed = rifollamento (think of soft butter under a wiping knife). Harder more resistant steel tends to become brittle.
