I calzoni a mezza gamba sono in pratica le originarie "culottes", dei nobili, a cui si contrapponevano, nella Francia del '700 i popolani che portavano i calzoni completi, e che perciò venivano chiamati "sans-culottes", termine che passò a definire i giacobini e dal quale deriva perciò il nostro "sanculotti".
