Dutch to English translations [PRO] Bus/Financial - Insurance
Dutch term or phrase:comfortondersteuning
I am having difficulty finding a decent term for this. It is not about orthopaedic chairs or anything like that, it is aboutassistance from an insurance company for stuff like emergency locksmithing.
Comfortdiensten die het leven makkelijker maken Altijd helpen is ons devies, zowel in nood als bij comfortondersteuning.
Now that you've posted the proper context I cannot see why you have such difficulty, why change a word, that is in fact the same thing in the target language?
Cindy, it is Belgian. here's a bit more we hebben gemerkt dat mensen meer nood hebben aan services, dat ‘bijstand ’ de voorbije jaren ook steeds vaker te maken heeft met het bieden van meer comfort aan onze klanten,
Unless your text is actually simply about what Comfort insurance is, then that is supplementary insurance / additional insurance. It is not the best type, because it doesn't provide full cover, you can often select a range of things you wish to have cover for, with a maximum amount of options, while premium cover means you are covered for all, to the extent they stipulate, so then they say, covered for dentist, only thing is, you are then covered for a few hundred euros, not more per year. Doesn't matter how poor someone is, or what type of insurance taken, bridges, crowns, are not covered, etc.
So all types except the basic cover policy are supplementary insurance cover types. These policies change like the direction of the wind, even the basic type used to remunerate amounts (with a limit) spent on alternative treatment, such as acupuncture, homeopathy, these days the basic insurance deserves a different word since it is pretty much less than basic, basic implies one can build on it as there is a foundation, but if there is no foundation, one might be better off calling it the Derelict Terrain Policy, with nothing there.
That's good, but depending on what your test shows in terms of context, you may need to put slightly more to make it clear exactly what it is, in relation to what. The insurance cover IS supplementary, it's not basic insurance, as I explained, so then you are talking about supplementary supplementary, which is confusing for anyone not familiar with the Dutch health insurance policies companies provide. Any insurance cover not basic is additional/supplementary insurance cover, then the services available for a fee or perhaps free, are what your text is about, I think. So even though supplementary and additional are both the same and which word one uses is a matter of personal preference, if you wish thereafter to convey that there are other services provided/available as support, you have to make sure it is clear how these 2 things - supplementary insurance and additional support services fit together in a sentence.
I'd say this: supplementary insurance and additional (optional) support services may almost be enough, if you define what the support is, if necessary. Final comment, the insurance schemes vary, but they don't give much away, you pay for what you get
Richard, everyone in the Netherlands is obliged to have insurance cover. The types vary from company to company, there are a range of supplementary insurance policies of which Comfort is one, in almost all companies. There may be several options with the word comfort, such as comfort plus, etc. Most companies start off with Basic, then maybe Comfort, then maybe Premium, then they may have a 50+ option, all of the options relate to what a person may need and what they are prepared to pay. The basic insurance is cheapest, and if you do not want to or are unable to pay a lot, then you opt for that, you are not free to live without insurance and it is not like the National Health. Your question, I would say, relates to additional services available as support services with a supplementary insurance policy. To differentiate between the different ideas/option and concepts, they are given names, comfort does not really mean comfort as in English, or even Dutch, it means ease of mind, by being assured, of certain things, it may be just during a holiday, it may mean opting for a policy that allows payment of a certain amount of alternative medical treatment.
