I am unclear, despite research of pathology sites, how to best translate "SE PINTA" in this context. My first instinct is to go with "IS STAINED" but "IS PAINTED", "IS INKED" and "IS COLORED" also appear to be options.

I would appreciate any suggestions/clarification.

If it refers to a legend of a figure or diagram then I would translate it "is colored".

If it refers to fluoresecent or other staining methods, I would use "is stained"

In my opinion, it's neither talking about a diagram (it's a physical sample from a dead body) nor a staining technique, but rather the simple appearance of the samples before preparing for pathology testing (microscopy, cultures, staining, etc.)
