Medical - Medical (general) / DIGITAL ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAM REPORT
Spanish term or phrase: patrones hipnicos
Hola!

Can anybody confirm the meaning of this in the context of a DIGITAL ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAM REPORT? I am not sure if it means 'hypnic patterns' or something else.

HALLAGAZOS:

Trazado de sueno natural muestra patrones hipnicos de aspecto normal.

Gracias!

As far as I can see, "hypnic" occurs only in "hypnic jerk", an involuntary twitch as you fall asleep.

-> Thanks José, I had a bit of a brain freeze and didn't make the obvious jump from "relating to sleep" and simply using "sleep"!

Reference: sleep patterns vs sleep-like patterns

Reference information:
I know this might sound way too subtle but as far as the references in Spanish are scarce (I have just found one single example of "patrones hípnicos"), the particular context might well be trying to differentiate patrones de sueño (sleep patterns) from patrones hípnicos (sleep-like patterns). This is, sleep patterns as a particular combination of EEG features that occur during (physical) sleep, and sleep-like patterns as a reference to an EEG pattern that resembles that of sleep although it might occur associated to either wake or sleep-like states.

And yet, of course, the original rendering
Trazado de sueño natural muestra patrones hípnicos de aspecto normal
makes it rather clear that it is just a reference to (EEG) sleep patterns (patrones de sueño).
