Hello everyone,

I need your help with the translation of "presenting patients" in the sentence below:

"Muscle resistance is linked to back pain in presenting patients"

Is it something like "...en los pacientes que presentan/sufren dolor"?? I thought about "afectados" however, I'd prefer not to use it as I have done so later on in the same sentence (qualifying a different noun) and I would like to avoid repetition.

Here I think it must mean either (2) or (3); in other words "presenting patients" could mean either patients who present themselves for medical examination or patients who present certain symptoms. I'm really not sure which is right here.
