Hi Jim, CAT tools (including Wordfast) do not translate anything, they are not machine/automatic translators. They simply assist you - they memorise your translations and glossaries. If you want something automatic, you can connect to an MT service (e.g. google translator), pay for their API key, and then use it in e.g. Wordfast. Good luck! If you think "dictionary's" is the plural of dictionary, I'd advise you to learn English properly before even thinking about engaging in anything with "professional" in the description. After that, you might think about reading the definition of CAT and MT to learn about the many differences between them. | |

The policy of Wordfast LLC is here: https://www.wordfast.net/index.php?go=demo 1. The Wordfast Classic demo mode The Wordfast philosophy is strictly try-before-you-buy, which is why a generous demo mode is offered. You can freely download and install the regular, full version of Wordfast Classic from the download page. Once this is done, you can start using Wordfast Classic with all its features activated, except these demo limitations: •The Translation Memory (TM) will hold only about 1000 translation units. When the limit is reached, a message will tell you; at that point, you can create a new, empty translation memory(1) and keep translating. •Links to Machine Translation (MT) will only work for two or three segments in a session. The demo mode is not time-limited. Many translators work for weeks before deciding to buy. 2. The Wordfast Classic Full version https://www.wordfast.net/index.php To download your pre-registered copy of Wordfast Classic, visit the Classic download page. https://www.wordfast.net/index.php?whichpage=downloadpage For testing you need to register only, download pre-registered copy of Wordfast Classic and test MT on more sentences and with more MT engines. Free MT is Wordlingo, you to list it and test. I just tested, and all worked on entire file. Sometimes one to have analytical reading ability. jim boot wrote: Does the demo actually contain translation dictionaries etc, or does the user need to supply these? The user has to create it during translation or supply it. I think Marcelina said it best: the CAT tool (Wordfast Pro in your case) helps you by memorising your translations while you translate, and by enabling you to use the memories of other translators (if they decide to share it with you). For the price I would expect it to have exceptional translation dictionaries. There are a few CAT tools that come with built-in dictionaries, but those are just simple dictionaries that you have to look up words in manually. Practically no CAT tool comes bundled with translation memories or with ready access to existing memories. What you mostly pay for is the peace of mind that the tool will support the file formats correctly. | | | Luiz Barucke Brazil Local time: 13:13 Spanish to Portuguese + ... What major steps have i missed when using this software, for the price i would expect it to have exceptional translation dictionaries Thanks Jim, if you are looking for a tool which works for you, try out Bing or Google Translator websites. They are free of charge. By your message, it seems you are not looking for a CAT tool and, I believe, you don't have professional purposes, so it really doesn't worth paying for one. The idea of a CAT tool is not being a translator itself (thank God, but helping translators to improve and streamline their work. | | | Now i understand | Aug 3, 2015 |
Thanks for clearing that up. Was basically looking for a MT program with spell check and alternate words list to select from due to numerous spelling mistakes in old text. assumed that Wordfast had MT included in the program. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Wordfast pro demo, why doesn't it translate ?
