Ctrl or Shift + Left Mouse Button Pressed Apr 26, 2012

Shift+Ctrl+RightArrow works in WF Pro just fine for selecting the next word. Have you tried it? Is this what you mean?

No, sorry, I've forgotten to mention the left mouse button holding down to copy/move words like in MS Word.
My idea in short: Ctrl or Shift + Left Mouse Button Pressed = Copying or Moving words at least inside of a single segment.

The fact it's no way to share termlists in a small team is simply incredible.
Wordfast Classic does.

I agree. Wordfast Server is already capable of handling terminology sharing, so it's "only" a question of adding support for it in Wordfast Pro. Hopefully, this support will come soon. In the meantime, you can use Wordfast Anywhere (see http://wordfast.fi/blog/cat-tools/2011/11/29/how-to-share-a-tm-and-a-glossary-with-wordfast-anywhere/ ), which supports sharing of terminology (as it happens, via Wordfast Server).

I see now! This should be possible in the WYSIWYG editor of WFP 4.

Kind regards,
Yasmin

Nice. Yasmin, thank you for your answer. I hope this feature will be there.

Just download the installer for v. 3.0 and run it: it will uninstall your current version (asking you if you want to keep your existing settings) and install the new version. You only have to follow the online instructions, mostly answering 'yes' when being asked questions

Link? May 15, 2012

Hi Dominique (or other helpful person), I did spend quite a bit of time looking for where to go to download the installer and couldn't find it. I'm sure I am missing something very obvious, but I would really appreciate a link. I was able to log in OK and have my original install number etc. but just couldn't figure out where to go next.
Thanks so much.

The link is:

Unlike with Wordfast Classic, you don't have to log in to your account in order to be able to download the Wordfast Pro installer (it's available to everyone).
You will need to log in to your account at wordfast.net after you have installed Wordfast Pro, in order to obtain the correct license file for it. The process is described here:

http://wordfast.net/wiki/How_to_license_Wordfast_Pro

But since Wordfast Pro is already installed (and, presumably) licensed on your computer, you probably won't have to relicense it again.

In a nutshell, the main thing to remember is this:

Wordfast Pro -> www.wordfast.com
Wordfast Classic -> www.wordfast.net

I agree Wordfast does make things confusing by calling wordfast.com their "high bandwidth" site and wordfast.net their "low bandwidth" site. The vast majority of translators couldn't care less whether a site has a high or a low bandwidth, it's not what they are interested in when looking for stuff. Most of the important stuff, for instance your personal account, the knowledge base, the wiki etc. are in fact hosted on the "low bandwith site".

Bilingual file export May 17, 2012

-Bilingual file export/import for review outside of Wordfast

How exactly do I use this feature? I like reviewing translations on paper or Kindle. I have updated to WF Pro 3.0 but I see only an option "Preview in MS Word" which exports target text only.

Bilingual Review is in found in the PM Perspective May 22, 2012

Hi Kaspars,

You need to switch your from the TXML editor to the PM perspective. in the PM perspective, you will see a tab that says "Bilingual Review". Add the TXML file(s) that you wish to export as bilingual RTF. Make sure you have selected the file(s) and click "export review" and Wordfast will export a bilingual RTF including instructions on how to work with the file.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Kristyna

What kind of advantages will I have by using Wordfast Pro 3.0? May 22, 2012

I bought SDL Trados Suite 2011 Plus last year and have otherwise been working with the Google Translator Toolkit and XTM.

What kind of advantages will I have by using Wordfast Pro 3.0?

You have to decide for yourself May 22, 2012

You should mostly compare Wordfast Pro 3.0 with SDL Trados Studio (because they are both desktop tools with a similar interface). If you want to include Google Translator Toolkit and XTM Cloud, you should compare them to Wordfast Anywhere (which is also an online tool, like GTT and XTM).

Deciding between SDL Trados Studio and Wordfast Pro is a bit like deciding between a Mercedes and a BMW: some people will prefer one, other people will prefer the other. When used properly, they will both take you from A to B. Now, if you already have a Mercedes, know how to drive it and are happy with it, you may not want/need to buy a second car. Actually Wordfast Pro is more like a Volkswagen: it's cheaper and has lower maintenance costs

As to deciding between GTT, XTM Cloud and WFA, WFA clearly wins IMO. It's free (like GTT, but unlike XTM), it preserves the confidentiality of your data (like XTM, but unlike GTT), it allows easy sharing of TM's and glossaries (maybe GTT handles that too, not sure about XTM), it supports a wide range of file formats (unlike GTT), it supports several MT engines simultaneously (I think GTT only supports Google Translate) etc.

WHAT about former Wf Pro 6.0, Kristyna? Jun 19, 2012

Wordfast is now releasing their new 3.0 Pro version software, but whatabout the 1999 6.0 Pro version mentioned here [http://www.proz.com/forum/wordfast_support/124013-new_wordfast_pro_60_release_available.html]

I would just like to understand, is it a version downcount or anything different?

Thank you,

We offer a full-featured demo mode which will allow you to try WFP without a paid license for translation memories of up to 500 TUs.

As always, existing WFP license holders can upgrade to WFP 3.0 for free by simply downloading the new version from the link above. The new version will be automatically licensed as long as your install number has not changed.

Best of all, all of these features are now included with the standard Wordfast Pro license (you do not need to purchase an upgrade to Wordfast Pro Plus). If you currently own a Wordfast Pro Plus license, please contact me directly at kmarrero@wordfast.com

Old versioning Jun 20, 2012

Hi Mateus,

For internal reasons, the very early releases of Wordfast Pro adopted a different versioning scheme which we subsequently changed and have been consistent with since. Rest assured Wordfast Pro 3.0 is the most current version I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

Sincerely,

Kristyna
