When I work, I often use SDL Trados. However, some of my clients often ask me to make "mirror view" layout. That means two languages on the same page (2 columns) - one on the left side and another on the right side. When translation is performed, I open it with MS Word and edit the layout.

However, is there any way to make a "mirror view" with Trados or any of SDL products? How do you make it?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but try this:
While in the editor, go to File>Print&View and then click Print Preview. Ths generates a two-column HTML file which then opens in your browser. From there you can print the file.

Example of "mirror view" Apr 23, 2014

I mean such "view" (source language in the left and target language in the right side). Is there any possibility to do this formatting in SDL Trados or other SDL product?

In Word Apr 23, 2014

Make a 2-column document in Word, copying the source into the right column, hide the left column, re-translate the right column automatically in Studio, save the target document and unhide the left column. This way you will get exactly what you need.

Export for external review Apr 23, 2014

I'd use "export for external review" after translating in Studio.

That will give you parallel text, but it won't be formatted.

What do you mean by saying "hide the left column" and then "unhide the left column. Which comand do you use to make it in MS Word?

Hidden text Apr 23, 2014

In Word, use the hidden text option: select all, go to font - tick "hidden".
To unhide, select all, go to font - untick "hidden".

Well if I copy the long source text into the left column, its continuation transfers to the right column and only then it goes to the 2nd page... So how should I copy it only to one side of the column?

This depends on the formatting of your text Apr 23, 2014

Most probably there are section separators etc. In this case, create the table with several parts. Actually, description of such operations can be found in help files fo MS Word.
