Hello SDL specialists,

I have managed to convert a TMX file in a TMSDL for Studio 2009.
I opened the TMSDL in Translation Memories.
When I go to Editor, it says "No open translation memories or automated translation servers".
So I clicked on "Project Settings", then Add, then my file with an TMSDL extension. But then a window appeared: "The translation provider does not support any language pair in this project or project template". So I tried to change the langua

So I tried to change the language pairs by going to Language Pairs, and select my two working languages. But it still does not work.

Thanks for any suggestion,

Delphine

Couple of things Oct 3, 2011

Hi Delphine,

The Translation Memories view is for TM maintenance, so you don't need to open a TM in there to have it available for use during a translation.

You did the right thing by adding the TM afterwards in Project Settings, but if you want it to be available all the time you may be better off adding this to Tools - Options as well. This way future projects will already have your TM available.

The language pair message is because you must be using a TM with different languages to the ones being used for your Project. This could be for several reasons:

1. You have different languages
2. You have different regional flavours (en-GB versus en-SA for example)
3. You have an EN - FR project but the TM is FR - EN for example

Does this shed any light on your problem?

Regards

I have the same problem Jun 5, 2012

I have the exact same problem. A client sent me new docx file a part of a previous project along with an updated sdltm. I added the sdltm, but when I go to open the new document I get the same message.

I then removed all the other TMs in the system and just added the client's TM but the same problem.

It is soooo much easier just to use Workbench.

Did you... Jun 5, 2012

... add the new file to the existing project as well or only the SDLTM? How are you opening the document for translation?

Apologies because I don't know how well you know Studio but there are a few basic principles you need to understand about where settings take effect and how to use a single document in different places and then it's really quite simple.

Regards

Paul

Had the same problem Jul 10, 2012

And then I rechecked the language combination --I had two variations of Spanish as target language, and apparently the TMs attached only responded to one of these languages, and the file to the other. I erased the project and started again from scratch, this time configuring everything with just one target language. Now it works fine.

I thought Studio 2009 would have posted an error message at least to advise me that my segments were not being saved anywhere! Fortunately I had only

Can I use several Tms with different languages? Jul 24, 2014

For example, I would like to use one from US-EN->ES-ES, another one US-EN->MX-ES and still another one US-EN->FR-FR because all of them will give me ideas as to the meaning and the best possible way to express myself. So far I have not been able to do this. I enabled these language combinations in File->Options, but they are not enabled for the file I need to translate in Project Settings.
Any help, please?
Thanks,
Pilar

You need the AnyTM app from OpenExchange:
http://www.translationzone.com/openexchange/app/anytmtranslationprovider-524.html#50860

The only problem with it is that it's not free.

Thanks Jul 25, 2014

Thanks very much for your help.
This is something you could do with Workbench, at least with one TM. It's a shame things go worse instead of better.

How would you do this with Workbench? Jul 25, 2014

Hi Pilar,

Emma pointed you to an app that would allow you to add all three different TMs to the same project and work with them, irrespective of languages. You could never do this with Workbench.

If you use one TM at a time in Workbench then you must be opening the TMs separately and working with them separately in microsoft word perhaps? I think this is the only scenario it would work because a bilingual doc opened in Microsoft Word doesn't have the concept of langua

For any other filetype you could not do this at all using Workbench. With Studio and this app you can do this for any filetype, as many files in a project at a time as you like, and all at the same time so no need to keep changing the TMs.

I don't see this as a step backwards.

Concordance Jul 25, 2014

Hi Paul,

With Workbench I could have a second TM, irrespective of language, referrenced for concordance, and it was very useful. Now I can only use TMs of the very same language, which is a bummer when I need to use, for example, European and American Spanish for the same customer. I think this is very stiff, and also a shame that I need to buy an add-on when the software is already quite expensive.
Thanks anyway for your info.
Regards,
Pilar
