Hello! I have recently become interested in website localization as a translation specialty. But I have no experience as of now in website or programming translations. Without experience, will this course be beneficial for me? I am quite financially limited at the moment and want to make sure to choose my courses and education wisely. I have recently become interested in website localization as a translation specialty. But I have no experience as of now in website or programming translations. Without experience, will this course be beneficial for me? I am quite financially limited at the moment and want to make sure to choose my courses and education wisely. Also, could anyone give me advise on the duration of education needed before actually beginning work in this field? Can I learn the bulk of it on my own if I am a motivated researcher and fast learner? I am certified in document translation and have been building up experience in that for the last couple years, but website localization seems like a good fit for me in the future. Any thoughts or advise?? Thank so much in advance. ▲ Collapse | | | It's an introduction to website localization projects and website analysis | Jun 4, 2010 |
Hi Elsie, Good question. This course will give you an introduction to the concepts necessary to deal with website localization projects. Due to the extreme diversified nature of the web, it is very hard to give general rules that you can apply to every project. This course will give you an introduction to the concepts necessary to deal with website localization projects. Due to the extreme diversified nature of the web, it is very hard to give general rules that you can apply to every project. That's why the focus of the course is on giving you the tools to correctly analyse each website and consecuently decide the right strategy. If you are really interested in website localization and want to leverage your knowledge, we recommend you to learn the basics of web languages (HTML is mandatory) and the caveats of character encoding (Unicode, UTF-8, etc.). These subjects are not covered in this course. I suggest that you also check two upcoming webinars by Andrea Spila that be useful: one on web writing (this is today at 16:00 GMT) http://www.proz.com/translator-training/course/3437-web-writing-for-translators and one on HTML for translators http://www.proz.com/translator-training/course/3440-html-for-translators . These are at the moment at a very affordable price: 20 USD - and you can get a 33% discount if you are planning to invest in membership in this campaign. Hope this was of help. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else. Kind regards, Soledad ▲ Collapse | | | Vipec Germany Local time: 08:22 German to Italian + ... character encoding | Mar 25, 2011 |
Hi Soledad,
you mention that knowledge of character encoding are mandatory. As I've no experience in the localization field, could you please tell me if some of ProZ.com courses cover character encoding as well? Do the mentioned webinars by Andrea Spila cover that?
Thank you in advance for your answer Vittorio
Do you guys have any suggestions of similar courses I could take? About website language, website localization, etc?
