I sleep for about 7-8 hours per day depending upon what time I go to bed.

Anything else is playing with fire. Insufficient sleep takes a huge toll on health and makes for very poor translations.

Me too!

Well, in the summer I have to sleep a few hours even if it doesn't get dark. I am well south of the midnight sun, but I have to make the best the beautiful northern summer evenings and sunsets... So I tend to miss the sunrise.

Some days in winter I have to make sure I don't blink at the wrong time, or I miss the moment the sun peeps through the clouds!
Freelancing means I can go out and get that vital daylight when it's there - and work when it's dark if necessary.

It's grey again today, but we have had some amazing weather here with hoarfrost like tiny flowers on the beach and veils of ice over bigger stones, all gleaming in the sun...

And the days are already nearly three hours longer than at Christmas!

Habits Feb 18, 2016

Mine have, although not by choice (I mean I didn't specifically choose to sleep less). I rarely sleep more than 6 hours now, with two toddlers around. Whenever I could sleep 7-8 hours, I spend the extra one or two reading.

I think sleeping habits of mankind in general have changed, at least in what we call the modern world. All these telecom lines, wireless networks, mobile phones on us/in our bags, advertisements everywhere intruding into our field of vision whenever we step outside our homes greatly affect sleep quality and duration.

Sometimes I have long good-night sleeps, sometimes fitful ones. I can tell the difference when my brain and my body haven't slept enough: I feel like a sloth the next morning.

Blame it on insufficient English study hours at public schools in some countries.

Do you sleep with your dog in bed?

Do you sleep with your cat in bed?

Do you sleep with a body pillow in bed?

Do you sleep on your bed or on the floor?

Or: Maybe you sleep under your bed?

Yes, there's an old saying about sleeping about ten hours a day and a couple of hours during the night, too.

Of course, during the winter, near the Arctic Circle, a "day" is quite a virtual concept..

8 hours Feb 18, 2016

Not necessarily in a row, and certainly not the same hours every day, but 8 hours.

Day = 24-hour period.

Nothing wrong with the English there.

Just sayin'.

Nooothing wrong with the English in the question. The fact that it doesn't match with some people's approach doesn't mean it's bad English.
The asker's intention could have been "per day", since "night" is a less measurable unit. Just sayin'.
