I understood this question from another perspective: if the rate is based on the target text then one should be double conscious on avoiding “unnecessary” words. Otherwise this question could be seen as unethical. | |

Is "differently" means "different translation quality" OR same quality but "different phrasing" in order to increase translation fee? | |

I don't, though, because I always charge by source. Same as working by the hour - of course you're not going to work as fast. It's not a matter of ethics, it's human nature. | | |

Either you translate and do it to the best of your ability, or you don't translate. At least, I do... I can only understand the question as: Do you rephrase your best possible translation in order to squeeze another few pennies out of your client? This is a ridiculous thought, as it would actually be more complicated to try to rephrase an otherwise perfect (of course) translation, in other words, a waste of time... Funny question...
