Because the OCR required to get the pdf file in a form suited to a CAT tool resulted in something truly ugly. Which meant that I got paid full price for the repetitions. You've got to love cut and paste.

Once or twice since they believed it limited creativity. I usually find I can make a few final touches once I have generated the final file, though.

They've never specifically asked me to use them, either.
As Maxi Schwarz said, most (all?) of my clients have never heard of CAT tools.

It's so good to know that I'm not the only "quirky" who doesn't use CAT tools! Some agencies insist on a CAT tool - usually Trados - in which case I don't take the job but I'm usually busy just the same.
