Same as in most other professions, I'd imagine.
However, what is "faddy" can be rather subjective. I tend to talk about jobs rather than "projects", which I feel sounds a wee bit too grand for some of the work I've done over the years. "Localization" is another term that I perceive as rather faddy. "Clouding" is another...

or at least in my specialised technical fields. There are always new technologies, but not necessarily "fads"
