In Italy, the first half of the year is a bit of a paper chase because if you're VAT-registered, you'll probably have to remind customers to send you certification of the withholding tax they paid on your behalf in the previous year.

Since I don't employ any secretarial staff, I try to keep the number of invoices I issue as low as possible. In a good year, the figure might be 50-60 but in years when pickings are poor and I have to take on more one-off jobs, it might rise to over 100... See more
