条仔，条女，都是比较粗的广东话。广东话讲女朋友，还有说“条菜”的。 说某个人，可以说“条友”。这些都是比较粗俗的，不够斯文的口头语。

There’re two approaches, descriptive and prescriptive, in linguistics as is well known. I side with the former. But I couldn’t care less about a flash in the pan before it makes its mark on, other than the words that are well developed, well established, and well received by, the well-read users of the Chinese language, spoken or written, particularly renderers at the beck and call of their clients day in and day out, year in and year out.

It reminds me of 《浏览这样的中英文》, Dong Qiao (董桥), 辽宁教育 1999, p119: 光是William Safire这样的文字祭酒就挨了不知多少闷棍。“A girlfriend of Woody Allen”, 马上有读者来信说非写a girlfriend of Woody Allen’s不可。
Quoting the above doesn't mean I've got the nerve to compare to Safire.
