Cafetran refuses to add a glossary to an existing project. I create the glossary alright, after restarting CT there is no glossary tab (although the glossary is in the glossary list), and I can't add anything to the glossary the Alt+G shortcut does not work.

I guess I need to remember to add a glossary at project creation time next time.

Can you see the newly-created glossary in the Glossary > Glossaries menu?

I also recommend updating CT to the latest versions via the simple drag and drop procedure as described here:

It's easy (though not intuitive) Dec 23, 2015

It's quite easy, though still not very intuitive. The 'difficult' part is that you first have to create a resource definition for any other glossary than the project glossary:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmbpEeXPLyc

(at 2 min)

Please also note that you can use the vertical bar (pipe, |) when translating from Polish into English, to indicate the word s

Yes I can see the glossary in the list but that is as far as it goes.

The article you mentioned has the link to the first build of Harbinger I guess.
Can you provide the link to the latest build here please?

So I have a feature request - checking for updates in the Help menu, or a configuration option to allow automatic checking for updates and installing them.

Regards,

Piotr

It's the same link :) Dec 23, 2015

It's the same one, I'm afraid. Igor updated the update package several times, without changing the date in the file name.

The link is still the same Dec 23, 2015

The harbinger (preview) version of CafeTran Espresso 2016 was updated with the same link based on users' remarks in that announcement message thread.

Some automatic form of checking for updates in the future is a good request of yours.

Igor

Adding an EXISTING glossary to CafeTran Dec 24, 2015

BTW Piotr, the automatic creation of the ProjectTerms glossary by CafeTran, the manual creation of an empty (new) glossary (Glossary > New glossary...) and the addition of an existing (e.g. downloaded from the internet or supplied by your client) glossary (Glossary > Add glossary...) are three completely different workflows, which can be a little confusing for new users like you, Piotr. Even when they are familiar with many other CAT tools.

Google for a specialised glossary, download it, convert it to tab-delimited, add the file as a glossary to CafeTran, see: https://youtu.be/t2zjpB56fv8

Yes, it is confusing indeed. Luckily we don't have "dictionaries" anymore but terminology management still needs some magic touches from Igor. No, I don't talk about memory for terms or regex only glossaries...

New terms are not saved immediately in the glossary but stored (?) in RAM. I have noticed that they were not saved in the glossary many times. Even those saved in the glossary are not displayed immediately, you need to click to another segment and come back.

You shouldn't use tab del glossaries at all.

Saved after navigating to the next segment Dec 24, 2015

That's true. You can set CafeTran to save additions/modifications to the glossary every time you navigate to a new segment (Edit > Options > Workflow > Auto-save glossary (entries)*). If you want to save any new term pairs immediately, you will have to use Glossary > Save glossary. There's no keyboard shortcut for it.

I guess that modifications of existing term pairs, via the Quick term editor, are saved as soon as you click the OK button.

*) Just an idea: if the user inserts a zero here, any new term pairs will be saved directly.

Fragment bases Dec 24, 2015

Michael Beijer wrote:

I'm not sure Michael, but I think that Hans prefers Fragment bases (formerly known as Termbases; after a long discussion they are now called Fragment bases to distinguish them from Segment bases, also known as TMs*)), because he prefers fuzzy matching rather than a simple file format.

Fragment bases are another means that CafeTran provides to store terminology:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmbpEeXPLyc

Whatever you prefer, CafeTran allows you to pick whatever you need.

*) Yep that's CafeTran, a lot of confusion about the jargon – but nevertheless a decent CAT tool.

Fragment base vs. glossary Feb 6, 2016

Hi,

New CafeTran user here. My question is: I don't understand the difference between adding a term pair to the "fragment base" vs. the "glossary". What is the difference in their functionality? Is it essentially the same as far as mining goes with the difference being that the glossary would be saved as a separate file from the TM, but fragments would be stored as part of the TM file? (I also had issues enabling the glossary function with a project that was already in-process).

Any chance of someone explaining how to create a resource definition? The video linked to is unavailable.
